Announcement of Appointment: Executive Director

The NC LIVE Executive Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Claire Leverett (she/her) as NC LIVE Executive Director, effective on February 19, 2025.

Leverett will build and champion the shared vision, mission, and values of NC LIVE. She will work closely with the NC LIVE Executive Committee, Librarians Council, and advisory committees, collaborating to establish priorities and objectives, design products and services, assess effectiveness, and ensure accountability. She will build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with and between NC LIVE’s four Communities of Interest (public libraries, UNC System libraries, Community College libraries, and NC Independent Colleges and Universities libraries). Leverett will manage the organization’s staff, budget, and assets, recommending policies and establishing operating procedures. She will coordinate the resource selection process in partnership with the Resource Advisory Committee and lead negotiation of contracts for licensed resources. She will seek external funds for NC LIVE projects, and lead and manage the NC LIVE Foundation with oversight from the Foundation Board of Directors. Leverett will meet regularly with library staff from each Community of Interest and represent NC LIVE to those communities, other networks and consortia, vendors, and the general public. She will guide NC LIVE’s public relations activities and participate as an active and visible leader in statewide, national, and international library communities, contributing to developments in the field.

Leverett currently serves as Interim Executive Director of NC LIVE, where she develops annual organizational goals and priorities for the NC LIVE team in collaboration with NC LIVE’s staff and advisory committees. She has led a number of outreach and engagement efforts with library staff across NC LIVE’s Communities of Interest and other statewide library groups, collaborating with them to design and implement programs and services. Leverett has managed and developed budgets, contributed to initiatives to increase NC LIVE’s funding and resources, led contract negotiations for NC LIVE’s licensed eresources, and has co-written federal and state grants to further support statewide projects. Leverett’s previous experience includes serving as Associate Director and Assistant Director of NC LIVE, as Acquisitions Librarian for the Tulane University Law Library, as Assistant Librarian for the University of Virginia’s Semester at Sea program, and as Reference & Instruction Librarian for Mary Baldwin University.

Leverett holds the Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Bachelor of Arts in History & Music from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
