NC LIVE Renews ProQuest & Summon through December 31, 2029

We’re excited to announce that NC LIVE is renewing all of our current ProQuest resources and Summon for the 2027-2029 Resource Cycle!

This early renewal includes all of NC LIVE’s ProQuest resources (see list here),* including the databases in ProQuest Central and the Summon discovery service, which is used by over 70 member libraries. NC LIVE's contract renewal with ProQuest runs through December 31, 2029.

About the ProQuest Renewal

The Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) recommended an early renewal of NC LIVE's ProQuest subscriptions. Since ProQuest resources make up a significant portion of NC LIVE's overall resource portfolio, renewing early provides the RAC and the Executive Committee with greater clarity and continuity as they plan the remainder of the 2027–2029 Resource Cycle. This renewal means that member libraries will continue to have access to the large portfolio of ProQuest resources through December 2029. In renewing NC LIVE's ProQuest resources for 2027-2029, the RAC considered several key factors, such as feedback from member libraries, usage data (including cost-per-use), alternative resources, accessibility, and more.

About Our Resource Selection Process

Every three years, the Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) spends 12 months assessing our current statewide subscription resources, analyzing usage trends, reviewing feedback from member libraries, evaluating accessibility, and comparing our incumbent resources to alternatives. NC LIVE staff negotiate with vendors to get the most value for our money, and then the NC LIVE Executive Committee reviews the RAC’s recommendations and makes the final decision on which resources we renew, add, and subtract. The RAC will be starting this process with the rest of NC LIVE's resources this year. More on the selection process and timeline for 2027-2029 resources can be found here.

We’re grateful to the RAC and all the library staff who contributed their input, which continues to guide NC LIVE’s collection development and help ensure that we invest in the resources that matter most to our communities.

We Want Your Feedback!

We hope you will continue to help shape our collections by taking our 2027-2029 Resource Value Survey (available soon). In the meantime, you can learn more about the resource selection process and suggest a new resource you would like to see.

*The Historic NC Digital Newspapers collection is part of a separate renewal process and has not yet been renewed for the 2027-2029 cycle.
